Welcome to PHYS 20800 at CCNY

Course page for: PHYS 20800 at CCNY - Spring 2018

This is the course page for City College Course PHYS 208, Sections CC, CC2, CC3, CC4, and CC5. Below are useful links.

The course syllabus is here: Syllabus

The book

Halliday, Resnick, Walker - Fundamentals of Physics

The content between the 9th and 10th edition is not too different, so you can use either. No online access codes are needed.

Online Homework

You can access the online homework system here: https://hedberg.ccnysites.cuny.edu/olhw/

Follow these instructions:

If you want to use WilyPlus, you are more than welcome. I won't add any content there however, nor communicate via that platform.

Clicker Info

You can register your clicker for this class here: Clicker Reg. Follow the directions. Register only once.

*Data will be counted starting after 2 weeks into class, but get your clicker now.*

You will need to re-register even if you used it last term.

And this is the model info: Turning Technologies LCD, ResponseCard NXT or QT device. Either one will work (for physics class)

To use the clicker, make sure the channel is set to 41 (which is the default). Then just press the letter that corresponds to your choice. Do not use the 'send message' function. Ask someone sitting next to you in class if you are unsure.

IMPORTANT FOR USED CLICKERS

Used Clickers should be ok as long as they aren't too old of a model. You might need to reset the Device ID. Here are instructions to do that.

Lab Info

Labs & workshops will start the second week of classes, Feb 5th.

The lab page (w/ report questions) is here: physicslabs.ccnysites.cuny.edu/208-labs.php

Workshop

On the weeks where there is no lab, a Workshop session will be held in the lab room at the same time as the lab. These will be an opportunity to work on physics problems in more depth than we can do in class. Attendance is required.

Full Schedule for Labs:

Communication

To comply with FERPA guidelines, please use your ccny email to correspond with me. Include your name and section number, and EMPLID if you need administrative actions done. Do not share with me your personal lives or other private information. If you must miss an exam due to illness, state that and that only. It's inappropriate and unprofessional to share details about vomiting, migraines, bowel movements, etc. Keep that between you and your medical provider or family, not your physics teacher.
